So its been a while since ive had this out, simple reason is that it broke down about 2 months ago when I last used it. Nothing major just the alternator which I knew was on the road out for about a year because the bearings were whining quite loudly but it finally gave up. And it was one of those things where I just parked it up and forgot it due to other stuff happening in life.
But I'm happy to report its all fixed again, new alternator on with no issues, went to put the belt on and the tensioner was seized solid, thankfully all the v6 engines use the same tensioner so sourcing a new one was easy and that was replaced as well. Next hurdle was the belt which was a like for like replacement and it was 15mm too short, but again its a fairly common size so a new belt was fitted and all is right with the car again, alternator wise anyway.
Here is a picture of the old alternator and tensioner, I don't have a picture of the new ones because they look exactly the same except shinier.
I dont have any pictures of the fitting process either simply because I dropped it off at my mates workshop and he did it all inbetween doing actual paying work so I'm always grateful for that.
This is a picture of some of the cars he works on along with the astra after everything was all done
I took it a run to make sure everything was OK and happy to report it is, so here's a picture of it next to some herris fencing to prove that its OK
So that's it about for now, plans are to get the bodywork tidied up a bit, fix the oil leak from the sump gasket and get the wheels refurbished all in time for show season next year.
Oh I also went to Toronto Canada to see Oasis because all the tickets in Britain were bought up by scalpers and 13 year old children. I am not an oasis fan but my missus is l, but after seeing the show live I dont dislike them as much as I did but Toronto is pretty cool and you can still get caramel sundae's in McDonald's over there.
