Spongy brakes

Just joined recently. I have a 1.8 16v gsi. Great car but I find the brakes are a bit soft. Is this common with this car ? I am wanting to sell it on but want the brakes sorted out before I do.

Yea it's common, I haven't found anything that makes the pedal any better tbh, alot of it is just flex in the pedal assy
