Hi guys I want to change my timing belt and water pump on 1.6i 16v and cant find any info on what the procedure is. As the links that i have found and have been provided on the forum in the past have expired and dont work now. Any help will be truly appreciated.

Have you got a Haynes manual? Would be well worth getting if you want to tackle it yourself, will have all the torques etc

I was planning on getting one but I heard from some owners (not on this forum) that the Haynes manual was not clear enough on some instructions and you had to guess some of the steps but as you say did have the torque figures however.

I would say it gives a fairly good instruction, but then timing belt isn't something for a complete novice to tackle so probably assumes you have some sort of mechanical knowledge

Yeah I've been working on and off for years on cars but never done a timing belt on the Astra. So I do have quite a fair mechanical knowledge I did timing belts on a couple of novas that I had owned years ago when first started driving so know the importance of keeping all Mark's lined up etc so it's just the procedure of what's gotta come off to replace it properly without cutting corners so if you think it gives fair instructions I will grab a copy and give a read through and tackle it.

I would say a haynes manual is probably the clearest instructions you will ever get!

I used a haynes manual to do a headgasket on my c14nz. I was 6 month into a mechanic apprenticeship and 18 years old.

Youll be fine with one mate!
