1995 Astra

So my mags, tappet cover and center caps are done. Now waiting for the spark plug and cam belt cover. (should be done by Friday)

Looks lovely recently looked at importing a 200ts yeah not cheap cars over there lol

Yes Kev, and every year its getting more and more expensive to buy them. A decent ts is selling for between R 75K (£ 4 300.00) to R 85K (£ 4850.00). Then the shipping cost.

Last year I made some calculations, looking at buying a GSI that’s for sale in the UK, apart from SA pathetic Rand to Pound conversion the shipping cost would have been +- R 22K That excludes the cost getting the car to a UK harbour and my traveling from JHB to Durban Harbour (+- 1200 km round trip).

If the ts is gonna ‘follow” the same rout as our Opel SuperBoss ( similar to your Vauxhall MK2 GSI), then soon they will be allot more expensive. A clean SuperBoss will go for about R 80K to R 100K and R 110K to 180K + for a very clean or fully restored SuperBoss.

silly silly costs. For the money I might aswell make my own id have change and a better spec

So while my “new” cast metal spark plug cover I bought about 3 weeks ago is being sprayed, I bought another cast metal spark plug cover (Saturday).

I’m going to try soda blasting on this one (first time I’m trying something like this), and then off to be powder coated in the original red colour.

The one that's being sprayed is gone be black as per the original black colour my ts came out with. Must say I prefer the red and the cast metal instead of the black plastic spark plug covers.

Last week I had new tyres, rear shocks and control arms fitted at my mates shop. The front shocks wasn’t changed due to non-stock so will probably fit them together with the new shock mounts next week or so.
Also fitted the new heater radiator.

The next day I did a breakfast run with the fellow Opel’s (mostly OPC’s). 68 Opel’s attended.

Its been a while and didn’t do much on the TS other than sorting a few issues out (Ignition Coil).
I still have to finish the cruise control installation (need a clutch pedal switch)

Changed the plastic spark plug cover with a metal one.

I still want one :(

Bought two secondhand MFD’s today to replace my faulty TS MFD.

One is an 8V MFD and the other is a 16V MFD. The identification numbers on the units are almost exactly the same except the last number is different on all of them including my TS’s MFD.

8V MFD number 500.205/001/004 6058

16V MFD number 500.205/001/004/6054

16V Turbo MFD number 500.205/001/004/6053

Tested them on my 5 door (Kadett 8v) and my Saloon (Astra TS) and works.

They are interchangeable between the engine size (ECU’s). Now why would they have different last numbers?

Maybe its something to do with the Speed and averages that’s received from the clocks or ECU?

8V (20SEH) clocks max speed is 220 km/h

16V (20XE) clocks max speed is 240 km/h

16V Turbo (20LET) clock max speed is 280 km/h

When I have time, ill test this speed theory with the different MFD doing let say at 100 km/h clock speed.Astra MK3 MFD's.jpgAstra MK3 8v MFD_LI.jpgAstra MK3 16v MFD_LI.jpgAstra MK3 TS MFD_LI.jpg

Well that is great news then, so even the 8V MFD will work 100%.

Thx for mentioning this 7zap. (i was not aware of it :)

I have just googled it and wow now it will be easier to look for parts.

forgot to mention, the 8v MFD Language is in German, i don't have a Tech 2 to change the language. Is there any other way to change the language?

If not i'm sure ill be able to borrow one from a mechanic or take it to someone that can change it.

I'm not sure really, it lists German as a different part number on 7zap
