Hi all,

About 4 months ago i decided id buy myself an astra GSI with the intention of converting it to an LET
I had already started rebuilding an XE engine i had aquired, as an LET...

To begin with before i had even sourced an engine i had bought an inlet manifold as a starting point (strange i know but it gave me an incentive to start the project and keep adding to it when funds become available)

After that come the throttle body which i smoothed out and gave a sharp edge to the butterfly

I ported out and mirror polished an original tophat but decided to sell it and go with the 3" variety from TX Autosport

Injectors come next and i also managed to get hold of most sensors from a guy called CEMEX off migweb (highly recommended, top bloke)

Added my FSE adjustable FPR (mainly because it looks shiny) and gave it lots of red hoses to go with my red and black theme

The original cylinder head upon closer inspection wasn't much use to me as it was massed in tiny holes (poss pinking/Det) and it would need a massive skim which isnt ideal for a turbo setup.
About a month later i bought another head which looked like it hadnt ever seen a skim, it had also already been sleeved so no porous issues here...
I stripped it down completely and rebuilt it with the necessary turbo parts and XE inlet cam (still need to add a vernier pulley to my list)
The valves were all lapped in and i even gave the exhaust side a good polish

So basically now i have a stripped down block awaiting the Turbo pistons to be fitted along with all new bearings, rings, oil pump, water pump, etc...

As far as the car is concerned ive pretty much stripped out the old engine (sold the coscast head)
Fitted my frontera intercooler (just gotta re-mount rad slightly to the left)
Added bonnett lifters and cut out bits of the front bumper around the numberplate to aide airflow to the intercooler

welcome
oooo nice and shiny!! like the work you done to your engine!!

nice project mate, looks to be good, what pistons you going to use standard??? what power you looking for,

i use cemex for all my parts, is a top bloke, just been to him tonight to get a fuel regulator.

look forward to seeing some more progress mate :)

car looks really low with no engine in it, going to be even lower with an engine in there, mine was like that, as soon as i put the let in the car dropped a further 20mm, my wheels rub the front arches really bad when i turn

looks like a nice project there mate

i recomend cemex aswell mate, got my LET from him, top bloke

top work mate, looks like a thorough rebuild!! keep it up! :D

Hello buddy.
Loving the Turbo Intercooler badge from a derv lol

Cheers for all the comment guys

Im using standard sized mahle pistons

The badge was kindly donated by an old frontera from my local scrappy :-)

nice project there :)

so far ive got my drill/tap kit on the way (to do my oil return from the turbo)
im currently sorting out some main and big end bearings too

ive decided im going with a Garrett T3 turbo rather than the K16 but im on the lookout for an exhaust manifold cheap as possible. dont particularly care if its all big tubular and shiny as i just need one that'll acommodate a T3 on my LET

any ideas guys? it needs to be cheap as possible as moneys tight at the moment but just want to get her finished

200sx manifold. The put a LET flange on it.

Autosprint sell one for about £300 iirc. With 2 bolt 38mm wastgate take off.

i guess a steel one would be much easier to weld... gonna make it my mission to find a cheap one and get it welded up to my XE flange

cheers for the advice mate

use a standard k16 and cut the turbo off the end of the manifold and weld a t3 flange on the end. Job done!

I have got a sha gged kkk if you want to buy it for parts.
