Aftermarket steering wheel fitting

Hi All,
Advice needed please. I have brought aftermarket steering wheel complete with boss and am concerned about fitting it to my merit due to airbag. I was told it not only causes the air bag light to stay on but also affects the ecu and possible seat belts ?? , is this true and does it matter with regard to it the light staying on or can you override this.Thanks in advance.

Airbag light will be on yes. Seatbelts are not affected though. No way to override it other than pull the bulb out or disconnect the airbag unit. You may have issues come MOT time though.

Cheers Andy any issues to worry about by disconnecting the airbag apart from the obvious. Why possible MOT issues.

because the air bag light being on is a fail.

the bulb has to light up on ignition, but depends on the tester really, they can see its a aftermarket wheel so should be ok

Can be failed for airbag obviously missing.

Edit: Light doesn't need to come on, only fails if it remains on.

Stick a capacitor in series with the airbag light, it will behave as expect then even without the bag.

Ive just pulled my bulb out. Never had any problems with mot or seatbelts.
