Hi all, first post (first problem in over 2 years) so minor but its bugging me
Moved to scotland this year from essex and my mighty astra is seeing its first real cold winter of its 15 year life.
A few days ago the outside temperature display read nothing (--.-c) and today its come back on but its a bit innaccurate, according to the weather report its a mighty -7c outside at the moment, but the dash is displaying 68.5c... so only 75c out... anyone know a fix for this? take it off and clean up the wiring? underbody is covered in slush and all sorts of **** and it did go sideways through a snow drift the day the display died, accidental but fun

Any helps appreciated

Cheers

Shealesy

sounds like you might want either a new sensor (in the pasenger side corner of the front bumper) or it might just want drying out, the --.--c normally shows when its unplugged completely the over reading is probably it drying out a bit but not quite enough and shorting itself

but its likely its nackered

i was sat in halfords carpark last night with a few mates, and we watched mine go from 1degrees to 7.5!!! but when i switched off and restarted, went back to normal, then back to 7.5, until i started driving!!

swear these sensors have a mind of their own!!

Yeah they do some funny things when they break! On another astra I had, it started off at about 12C then worked it's way up to 62C

its a trusty bit of dash for me, beside the bulb behind it being gone (thinking blue next) its great, i quite often, like tomorrow night, do a 600 mile drive back to my home town near colchester to see family and get absolutely wrecked in the ol' local, and i know that when it starts getting down to -6 if my washer bottle isnt mixed strong enough the water freezes before hitting the windscreen, right pain in the arse, so i have to pull in and top it up with blue stuff or increase my distance from the car in front, which is usually about 6feet on the motorway. why can no-one actually drive at the speed limit?

and cheers for the answers, im off to lay in the snow and try and get it out for a dry off and a clean up

 I always have my temp display up, I find it's usually very accurate too. Dont forget the thanks button :thumb:

wow theres a thanks button!! ace thanks all. mine used to be a couple of degrees out comparing to other more modern cars and to yahoo weather on my phone, but close enough, its dropped to -9 here and its reading 65.5c...

couldnt get to it tonight, behind the fog light is still packed with snow from my meeting with the snow drift maybe in the summer when its all defrosted haha
