Just bought another little gem, blue 1.4 mpi auto, body work is immaculate not a spot on her, engine pulls well but tappets are really noisy, wats first thing to try to sort this out?
Changing them means taking the cam carrier out, which is held in by the head bolts. You can do it without changing the headgasket if you dont move the head.
Run some engine flush for the required duration, drain and refill with Vaux semi synthetic. Do this a couple of times for the next month or so and you should help them out no end,
It's dead easy, once you have the cam carrier off take the cam followers off then they just pull out and slot the replacement ones in. be sure to make a note of which followers go where though.
