As you all know I'm relitively new to the Astra Mk3 club, so was just wondering if someone could tell me what all the engine names mean, such as X16XE or the C20LET. I assume the number is the displacement (16 = 1.6), what what do the letters mean and what does LET mean? It seems that the LET is a popular choice of engine!

So if someone could point me in the right direction of where to find this, or even tell me, that would be super!

:cool:

C20LET is a common way of shortening the calibra / Cav turbo engine.

the others are XE (for C20XE) and ZLET ( turbo from a mk4 gsi / sri turbo etc )

hi man just to give you a bit more understanding

PART 1 = relates to emission legislation. current cars need to meet euro 4 regs and engines that meet this get a Z, euro 3 get a Y, euro 2 get a X, and euro 1 a C. engines that dont have a letter were built before euro emission regulations

PART 2 = the 2 numbers as you said refer to displacement so 20 = 2 litre, 14 = 1.4 litre

PART 3 = refers to compression ratio of the engine
G = 8 to 8.5:1
L = 8.5 to 9:1
N = 9 to 9.5:1
S = 9.5 to 10:1
X = 10 to 11.5:1
Y = 11.5+:1

PART 4 = fueling
D = Diesel
E = Multi point injection
V = Carburettor
Z = Single point injection

PART 5 (extras) only some engines have these
B = IBC
C = Corporation ingnition system
F = Veichles for authorities
H = hight output / supercharging
I = Irmscher
J = Throttled output
K = Komplex
L = Low output / supercharging
P = Power adaptor
R = Increased output
T = Turbo
U = Uruguay
V = Volume model
W = Venezuela
2 = Family II engines

hope this is a help it pinched from in the back of total vauxhall a lot of it not very usefull most of it is stored in my brain in the useless rubbish section

hmmmm i want a Z14SET

haha i thought id make my own engine up

xel is 1.6 16v ecotec from an astra sport or arctic 2, i call it the mini valver

i wish i could find a engine with some of the random codes on such as F or the weird ones are U , W
