Right i've got an Astra Mk3, R Reg

Firstly, how do i go about changing my speakers in the front doors?
I've got the covers off, but it seems difficult to get a screwdriver in the gaps to take the stock speakers out?
Do i take off the door cards and if so how?
Also could anyone suggest a good set off speakers, reasonable price, that will fit!!

Secondly, how do i change the rear speakers? (The ones by the side of the parcel shelf)
They looks easy to take out but i dont want to mess with the wires etc.
So how do i removes the leads that go into them?

Also, how would i put in LED's/Lights, that would go in the 'space' where the front door speaker is situated.
I'd like them to come on when i open the door, just like the light by the rear view mirror does.
I dont really want to mess with lots of wiring without prior advice, just because the car is so clean and tidy and i dont want to ruin anything!

Lastly, for the meantime ;) ... Is there a possiblility of making my aerial electric?
With a button to raise/lower next the HU
Would be good because i dont really like it sticking up so much :)

Thanks for any answers, i can get pictures up if you like but i'm sure you guys will all know what i mean anyway :)

if you want to make life easier take the door cards off theres 1 screw under the handle 3 right underneath the doorcard and one behind the electric mirror (or blanking cap if you dont have electric mirrors) then pull the door card as there are clips that hold it

the rear speakers id just undo them and cut off the plug and fit some new ends to them for your specific speaker

leds you would need to run a 12v+ to a switch somewhere then to your leds then earth it on the door somewhere youd need a fuse in there... not sure what one tho

and an electric aerial youd need to find a scrappy and nick one off a higher spec astra the wiring may already be in yours

It's much easier taking the door cards off. There's about 5 screws, 3 along the bottom, one below the handle, one above the handle under a small plastic cover. Then there's just some plastic clips holding it on, you can either try and slide it off or do what I did and lever them off with a screwdriver. You need 17cm/6.5" component speakers. The max depth is 56mm although you can make an adapter for deeper speakers. What's your budget? They range from £4 at a car boot to £8,000. So you need a budget really.

If I remember correctly, they're just screwed into the plastic trim with four screws, and the connector just un-clips easily.

You mean you want some lights behind the speaker grill in the doors that comes on when you open the door? You can run a wire down from the interior light into the doors and wire up a bulb or LED as required. Pretty simple really.

Some astra's like mine came with one, they are about £15 to buy and work off the radio. There's simply a power and earth to the aerial, and a signal cable that goes to the radio. There's a good chance that the wiring is already in place so it's worth checking that. So with that the aerial will extend when the radio is switched on, then retract when the radio or ignition is switched off.

Hope this helps

 ^ also i think andy means 6.5" speakers for the front...... or 17cm

Thanks for the quick replies :)

I have slight issues with the LED wiring, i'm not too hot on wiring fuses etc ;)
But i'm sure me and some friends would be able to bodge that, but how do i actually get the wiring?

Once i find the wire i just split it?

Budget for speakers in the front - £50 - £75?

Rear speakers - £50

Anyone reccommend for either?

I guess halfrauds aint the best place to go but i dont really know where to buy from, i'm new to all this ;)

if you pop down to halfords get your self some wire stripers (£3.50) a soldering iron and solder (£10) couple of reels of wire (£3.50 per reel) and a fuse holder (£?) some electrical tape and solder the wires onto the fuse holder also you may wana wire it onto the ignition live as that way you wont forget they are on (although leds use hardly any power and wouldnt matter that much) any wires you join twist them together and put a bit of solder on em to secure em then tape over or some block connectors if you wana spend a few extra £s

keep it all nice and neat behind all the trim of the car giving yourself pleanty of slack to hide it all up

im not sure how you would go about securing the leds........ maybe glue the to your speakers

How do i get to the wire, cos that sounds relatively simple :)
Pop the cover off the light?

I'll be glueing them to the doorcard itself i think ... but thats only superficial and not that important until the wiring is done :)

Having a couple of problems!
Only tried the passenger door so far.

I've took all screws out - 4 from the underside of the door, 2 from below the handle, and the 1 under the plastic cover in the handle.

I've also popped off 3 of the plastic clips, that go down the right hand side of the door as you long from the inside, but its still hanging on :(

I think they are held by more clips on the other side of the door, but i cant get to them.

Do i take the door pin out, and if so how :)!?

Thanks again ;)

I would assume that the wires for the aerial are already there, as they were there in my astra, and that is a base merit one(94).

There are a combo of press-stud clips and slide on clips ... IIRC, just above the speaker , I had to slide my hand upwards and gently pull the card towards me to free the press-studs the there are also some on the right side of the card looking from inside the car, outwards. So slide your hand up to free them and once they're free you can carefully slide the card off the remaining clips ... they slide horizontally ... it's a bit fiddly and it's possible you may accidentally break one or two of them but don't worry, just be delicate about it and you should be fine.

I followed this:

1. Pull off the door mirror adjustment boot (slides off easily)
2. Pull off the little triangle behind the mirror (3 clips) and take out the tweeter. Be careful of the tweeter cable.
3. Pull off the "front half" of the grab handle, starting at the bottom side of the lower edge. Then undo the torx screws behind that, also remove the electric window button.
4. Undo the 3 torx screws along the lower edge of the door card
5. With the window down, pull the bottom of the door card away (Many clips), and then pivot the rear edge upwards off the door pin.
6. Loosen the whole rubber edge off the window so u can then lift it completely away. Before moving the card away from the door (now its loose) pull the door handle as if opening the door - so u can remove the cable that slots into the rear of the door handle. Also, there's a blue lug on the outer of this door pull cable that needs to be pushed off from the side nearest to u.

Bloody hell ;) .... i best do it when i've got plenty of time ;) ... thanksss !

Yeah that's what I noticed about mine, that the previous person had broken the clips ... the card still sits on fine, though, except up where locking pin is, it's only kept on by the lip and pin I guess ...

I read something here yesterday, can't recall where, but the member said that the power aerial works of the radio on/off button ....

How cool is that? I don't have power aerial but I'd love to have it after reading how it works ... apparantly the wiring may already be there to have your aerial powered but I'm really not 100% on whether at the radio end that it's already hooked up to the on/off button, someone more au fait will need to step up.
