Hi all, a while ago i introduced my car that i have owned for about 2 years and also haven't seen as it was either in the uk at my brothers house and when i got it back to ireland, i moved to germany.....................so about a week ago i drove it from ireland to stuttgart germany where i have a nice shed rented ready for the project.

2 years ago i rebuilt the engine with new oe parts, i ported and polished the head, fitted a superchip and cams with verniers, scorpion exhaust and a few other bits. Thats when it got put on hold due to other commitments.

So here are a few pics from back then:

This is the car as it stands now in the new shed:

So anyway after an inspection underneath......yes u guessed RUST.....but not as bad as i thought so the idea is strip it down do the minor welding parts that need done and seal it all up, when i repainted i replaced the 2 rear arches!!!!! But still a little rust in boot and inner arches etc.

So this is what i done tonight and found:

All in All i am quite happy with what i found, underneath is quite good too, when i strip that down pics will follow.

This under the hood...........amazing how it can get terrible looking from being out in the rain for 2 years!!!!!!!!!!!

So future plans are underneath rebuilt treated for rust new jacking points, poly bushed.

Ohhh and we have some american company in the shed too!

Engine out again subframe powder coated, might switch to tb's in near future too.

Progress to follow!

Very nice (i've got a thing for Spec Blue MK3's) and very lucky on the rust front.

One question tho. Is the car staying UK registered or German?

nice little build there mate you should seal the arches on the inside tho to stop the rot

I did the work, my brother kept an eye and some advice he is an un-employed panel beater and sprayer at the mo................so that was handy, there is a small blemish under the paint where the paint reacted a small bit, might get myself another grille and spend some time at another one!

But over all it was quite easy and a learning experience, mechanics is my norm not body work!:

:0 im the other way around, well i prefer to tackle the body work, im a painter and decorator by trade so filling and sanding i can handle :) mechanics i have alot to learn. im on the look out for a gsi grill at the mo will have ago at smoothing it.

looks awesome mate, paintwork is spot on! once that is all sorted rust wise gonna be a very nice example.. loving the engine bay too

Nice colour :) What is Thomas the tank engine doing in the 3rd pic. Shame Stuttgart is just sooo far away, could have popped down for a nice cold Veltins or whatever you like :)

But thanks, glad you like it!

theres always stuff to do  and when you nearly finish you do what i do and say lets put a wide arch kit on... i need someone to say stop lol!! :tape:
