mk4 2.2i any good what should i look for

Hi looking at getting a mk4 2001 y reg 2.2i 3dr astra 144k
what should i check for how good are they

i have heard the 2.2i engines are a bit crap and not very relialable

The 2.2's arn't to bad if they have been serviced properly, at 144k though I bet its using a fair bit of oil which from my experience they tend to do past 100k. It should of had a chain on it by now so make sure it was done too.

The z22se is a great engine, you just have to look after it, you'll find most people who give them bad reports are people who have never owned let alone driven 1, as said chain is the main thing but mines just touched 150k and hasn't missed a beat, coil pac and egr can also cause probs. Tuning wise is expensive tho

for power wise and drive-ability there a good engine, they seam to do highish millage when looked after but speaking to quite a few people who own them or have owned then that apart from the obvious chain's breaking they do tend to drink oil. Some people will disagree with this but i know 2 people who have owned 3 and 2 out of the 3 have drank oil even with a full rebuild too.

Personally id avoid them id rather have a 2.0 or a 2.5 v6 than have a 2.2.
