First of all I'm new to the club so howdy! I've had plenty of Vauxhalls in my time but this is the first time I've ever joined a club and I'm looking forward to attending some shows next year.

My old 1.6 8v blew its head gasket recently and needed quite a lot of other work doing to it so I decided to get rid and buy a MK3 2.0 16v Astra Sport.

I found it on eBay being sold by a nice chap in Sheffield. He was telling me how much he loved the car and enjoyed showing me all of the receipts and service history which came with it. So after taking it for a test ride and instantly falling in love with it I bought it for a measly £600 (reduced from £650)!

I don't have any pics yet but will post some as soon as I can.

Current Spec:

R ('97) 2.0 16v Astra Sport (X20XEV) in Diamond Black (I think that's the correct colour).

83000 miles.

Full service history and all receipts for every bit of work completed (even the original PDI docs!).

Toad Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser.

Vehicle Tracker fitted but not currently subscribed-up.

Courtney Sport side badges

Smoked side repeaters

mk3oc sticker in rear window :heh:

Pretty much spotless apart from a couple of very minor scuffs here and there.

Pending Styling Mods:

GSI rear lights (to lose the orange bits on mine)

Carbon boot trim panel (behind number plate)

Carbon sparkplug cover

Carbon bonnet

Carbon rear GSI spoiler

Possibly carbon side skirts.

All to be genuine full carbon fiber parts, not dodgy wrapped parts. This baby is getting the treatment.

Proposed Engine Mods:

Not sure what I'm doing here yet as she's running well on her X20XEV but I do want more power eventually. Maybe a 2.5 V6...

Hey sounds a good buy. Nice solid base for the mods to start. The xev is a under rated ngine imoa, I had one in my vectra and it went well, did 120k no real issues and I had it looking tidy too. In the end it ran dbilas throttle bodies and was going the full banana with hot cams, ported head, pistons and rods, LSD, and management. Would have been good for nearly 200bhp but I fell for turbo engines instead :)

Was all looking good until this morning when she let me down. Not firing at all. Never mind, I've been planning on sorting some new plugs and leads out so hopefully that will sort her out.

Update:

New plugs, leads and rocker gasket due to oil leaking into spark plug ports – bit of a scare this morning that!

Welcome to mk3oc :)

Get some pics up!

Will do over the next couple of days, want to get it clean first :-)

Now needs track rod end, off-side front tyre and still got an annoying misfire at 90 degrees engine temp - aggh! Mods having to wait yet again due to annoying little problems. Need to get my cam belt changed too.

It happens... when I first got mine I had the fuel tank leak so was peeing out everywhere when it was filled more than 1/2 way. Crank sensor went, rocker cover gasket went, track-rod ends, ball joints, both wheel bearings on the front went.... hmm, what else was wrong? alsorts went wrong with it but now they're sorted its a great car to drive!

It's a bit annoying 'cus my old mk3 8v just ran forever with no problems at all. Never spent a penny on it, well until the head gasket, shocks and clutch all went at the same time.

You're right though, once these little jobs are done it should be a good 'un. It is an old car after all.

Try getting the coolant sensor changed, it's only a few quid. Or try another did pack as you've done the leads and plugs.

I never had any issues like what you have with yours. Im sure it's something easy!
