How much oil do I need to top up my 1.4 merit?

And also where on the dip should the oil be, mines right to the top of the measure... I dont think thats right.

there should be an upper and lower mark on the dipstick.... they are the min and max marks

as above and i think its 1ltr from min to max too.

as above, tow notches on the stick represent min and max, 1 litre between each mark. If its over the max mark, its really bad for the engine, just as bad as not enough oil, as it can cause seals to blow out.

A little concerned if the previous owner topped it up too high, shud b fine concidering I had the practice a few days ago changing the oil on my other car.

If it's only a little bit don't worry about it but if it's a lot then just give it an oil and filter change which is about 3.5 ltrs
