bit of a quick question, can you use any old polish with a mop? or is it really worth gettin something a bit special. the paint in question doesn't need loads of love, just to get rid of some swirls. what are people using?

You'd need a cutting compound then to polish it to shift the swirls and different pads. If you use any old polish it will mask not remove

I use Poorboys SSR 3 and 2.5 for mopping, and the abrasive version of lime prime for finishing. With blue and green Hexlogics pads.

yea i was gonna say, what about all the different pads? seems to be alot and im not sure what they all do! basically i have the chance to borrow a friends mop, it is the meguires one, and if i like it i'm going to buy one

I've used megs pads too

I have a meguiars mt320, they are good polishers that are safe enough to use that you will not cut through your paint. If you have dull paint or scratches you would use an abrasive cutting polish like farecla g3 with a hard pad. For a general polish you would use a soft pad with a finishing compound like Farecla g10. The meguiars red pad is for cutting and yellow general polishing and black for your finishing compounds and waxes. If you're planning on using one to flat back your paint after respraying your need a rotary polisher as dual action polishers don't really generate enough heat into the paint to bring back the gloss after wet sanding.
