Power with no engine?

Ideally I need to get some power into the car, but before my engine goes back in. There's a few jobs I can get done...

If I put a battery in, and connect it to the terminals that are there, will that work?

I'm probably being stupid here....

Will work fine. Just tape up the starter loom.

I towed a car with no engine and everything worked fine with battery terminals connected.
