Quick Question..... Hub Nut Size?

i got one like that for about £7 at local auto factors, and the other chisel/wedge type (which i find better for the bottom joint) which you hit for £5, same place. i lube up the rubbers on the ball joints so they slide around the splitter tool, not snag and tear.

What do you think of this?

Will it be ok for my Mk3?

I priced up a similar one in my local Factors Place the other day, and they wanted £20 !!!!

looks ok, but id be looking in a cheaper motor factors as £20 is dear!

just be care full not to split the rubbers on the ball joints as if you do, they will have to be replaced. you'll notice if they do split as they are full of grease and it'll start to weep out.

they are good, just that you try and get the scissor type in at the botton joint, it can be too tight. driveshaft/abs ring gets in the way...

thats why i got both. i use a smear of grease on the rubbers.

i used LM grease, a few quid for a tub, and i also grease the threads of bolts/nuts when i refit, so they don't seize... and i smear some on the driveshaft splines when i refit suspension leg.

i did the same purges in the new year. 2x wishbones, 2x strut tops 2x arb links. all sorted! you might as well do both sides with new wishbones and arb links!

don't forget to get the tracking done when all complete!

tracking place will spot the new shiny bits and tell you to pay up!
i have been about 4 times in the last 8 months, after i have been changing suspension and steering bits, and each time they comment on the new bits...

I just done the springs/shocks all round on my astra, and did not need a joint breaker for the bottom, just slide a bar in about 3 feet long and stand on it, whilst someone whacks the hub pinchbolt area, soon comes free, I used my scissor type joint breaker on the tack rod end though.
I use a 3 piece spring compressor set, and tie wrap either side of the where the clamps attach to the springs, as they are a bit of a angle and can slide.

No probs the ones I use are from WILCO, and have a CLAW type but that fully encompasses the spring bit they are on.
