well basically can you tax your car without it being insured?

my mate told me you cant tax your car unless you have insurance documents with you at the time, my situation is that my tax has ran out on my mk3 (lastmonth), my insurance ran out lastyear as i bought a second car so i dont have to drive my mk3 everyday so i dont insure it no more, i only insure it on tempcover for the weekends etc. now that my tax has ran out, am i able to tax it without insurance or do i have to insure it for the weekend to get a new tax disc?? if they will let me do that or will i have to insure it for the year then cancel the policy after the car has been taxed lol cheers steve.

if you do it online i think you can, athough im sure you have to agre to a declaration that its insured and MOT'ed etc

iirc they check the insurance database when you tax it online and if it's not insured or MOT'd then they won't let you tax it, same with temp insurance policies they won't let you tax it with them either, needs to be a full policy

so im just going to have to take out a full insurance policy for the year to tax my car then cancel it as soon as i have taxed the car itself so i get my money back from the insurance company?? is that the only option i have lol well i could get a trailer, so i can tow the car to santa pod, but id much raver prefer the drive down.

my advice mate is to find a garage who can tax cars they may charge 20% for the privilage but thats what the charge would be for a weekend insurance policy on temp cover would be!

Hi Steve
why not jus bite the bullet and insure it as a 2nd car with limited milliage. Then you arnt messing about all the time, plus you could find it is cheaper .

ive never thought of insuring it as a second car but that does sound like a really goood idea :) saves the hassle of me using tempcover all the time, will i be able to add my astra onto my insurance which im currently on now, or would i have to start a new policy?.

Prob best starting a new policy with a specialst insurer, have a look in out traders area as there a re some insurers in there that may be able to help

sound no probs, ill have to have a look about then :) cheers for all the advice above people i would click on the thanked button but im not sure where it is with this new layout we have
