TomF`s GSi Project Stage 2 - Trackday Version

I know a guy at pro alloy, I'll ask him

Nice, can send you as many pics of this as needed, It was the same time I took steering arms to Compbrake for them to make a rose jointed setup, still waiting for that too

The tank ? Well put it this way mate, I gave Klint at Compbrake a donor standard tank to copy and sent him several pictures of the alloy one, Its been over a year and nothing has come of it..
because he is useless

Ok so still got smoke issue, has to be down to the map being too rich on over run, one way to get pops and bangs, but need it sorting so going to go back to EFi for a tuneup

Plus side, I have another set of wheels and super sticky/soft Avon ZZR tyres to try, 215/40/17 so bit wider, dry use only though

Any recommendations on what too use? brake dust off the fronts is unreal

They are made by twogates wheels from the 90s, oldschool! I believe theres some dymag connection somewhere but cant really find any proper info to confirm that. Not sure on the offset but they stick out approx 10mm further than the Team Dynamics and those are 45 offset, they are 7.5 J so better suited to the 215 section tyre. Only downside is, Im having to use a 15mm spacer on the front as they wont clear the 6 pots

Bad news, cylinder leakage test done and a rebuild is now on the cards:

Cylinder one: ~5%

Cylinder 2 ~ 18%
_20190710_210141.jpg

Cylinder 3 ~ 12%

_20190710_210054.jpg

And cylinder 4 ~ 40% leaking past the rings so worn bore hence the oil smoke :(

Fresh bore to 86.5 is the way forward, need to find suitable standard comp ratio pistons now though, Anyone recommend a supplier ?

ahhhh mate!!! I had no smoke, but pressurizing the block.
cylinder 1 and 4 were less than 5%
cylinder 3 18% cylinder 2 15%!!!

So i have a rebuild on the cards aswell once the bareshell rebuild is done!

Yeh its a pain but glad Ive finally found something that makes sense for it to be smoking the way it is, and to be fair its had alot of stick and remember this engine was in the corsa that was built before this astra!

Going to get one more day at Oulton out of it to try the new tyres, before I take the engine out for rebuild :thumb:

Few pics from the last outing this year, Pistonheads Saturday Service at Oulton park, Pistonheads meeting and sessioned track day:

Oulton Park Saturday Service review | PistonHeads

Great day, lots of interesting cars to see and fantastic weather.

Few pics of mine, Going very well, set my fastest ever time of 2.00.324mins, ZZR tyres so much more grip compared to the Ns2r ! :o

Didnt end well though, something major has happened to the gearbox so needed a piggy back home, so that along with the engine issue means its out of action till next year now :(

Love oulton park, only done 1 track there but one of the best circuits in the UK.

Shame u managed to kill the gearbox, managing to break an f28 is some feet, but hopefully it's something simple like diff bearings and should be good as gold again next year.

I need to open up my engine at some point and find out where my cylinder leakage is coming from! Hopefully mine is just ring gaps

Gutted Tom. Was in work and going to pop down after but I got stuck so didn't bother. I love Oulton booked it for December as wet or dry doesn't bother me its just fun.

Get back there soon as you can mate, Love the place, proper challenger and its so local to me, As for the box, it still drives in every gear, doesnt crunch, just get to about 30mph and lift off and theres a horrible noise, Im hoping it is diff bearings as thats an easy enough fix, drained the oil out and its wasnt looking too good, lots of metal on the drain plug magnet too !

No worries mate, always the next one, well next year now haha.
Feel theres still more in the car, I reckon was on for a flyer of lap but had to back off as caught up an M3 who got in my way !

Bored today so out with the gearbox, at home in the garage on axle stands and a jack

Dsc_1695.jpgDsc_1696.jpg

Forget how heavy the F28 is, defo need help putting it back in!

Dsc_1681.jpg

Its in a bad way, its not the diff bearings, its much worse ! Main output gear has lost some teeth, damaged the bearing and casing and cracked a tooth on the crownwheel, not repairable !! Not really got an idea of how this has happened tbh...
