A mk2 is born!

Pulled all the loom out today to remove all the unwanted wiring, add a wire so i can run an abs sensor for the speedo and generally tidy bits that vaux didn't do so well in the first place! Had to work around other jobs so it is all sat in the footwells looking like spagetti the loom should be a good 40% smaller when done and will add a few more kilos to the total hopefully will have it done tomorrow and will sort out some pics.

Loom Stripping all finished now and everything still works that i need for the mot had one or two heart stopping moments when i thought i cut the wrong wire but oterwise went smootly and i now have a nice tidy lightweight loom!

nice work

Also the eagle eyed may have noticed some new seats :)

Swapped the seat bases over for the merit one's as they are much lighter infact the gsi seats weigh pretty much the same as the merit ones! Its just the runners that are different because of the height adjustment and pre-tensioners.

Clean as hell that! Well done mate

I used to have a problem with buying rusty gte's so i wanted the cleanest mk2 i could get this time. Though you never know what you will find until the carpets out and to say i am pleased with the condition of the floors is an understatement!!

You should be! Looks almost factory fresh under there! I did notice the seats btw, saw the GSi stripe on one of the pics!

Had a bit of a play on monday! The door cards look very wrong with the gsi seats so i was thinking of re-covering them but before i did this i thought i would do an experiment :) I know its wrong to keep them when i am trying to save weight but i still want a tidy car so they are staying while its still in daily use anyway pictures.

I was going to replace the inner door pulls with straps but when i realised how little the merit ones weigh i decided to keep them still managed to lighten them a little by removing a peice of plastic from the inside of the handle! Then i painted the door handles with plastic primer and finished them in satin black which is a perfect match for the factory black plastic.

The removed plastic and painted plug

Then i primed the vinal on the doors again with plastic primer and painted the whole thing matte black

Not really expecting the paint on the door card to last but seeing as i am going to re-cover them at some point or remove them altogether i thought i would give it a go!

Dont really want to carry any tools around in the car as it defeats my objective a little but i have to have a jack and a wheel nut wrench the vaux items are quite heavy but i had a mk4 golf toolkit lying around with an aluminium jack and wheel brace and saved myself nearly half a kilo!
