Do you just have roof lining in the front? (Been a long time since I had a Mk3 van!)
 
I thought that might be the case. Are you keeping it just that, or running it through the back as well?

I'm assuming the stuff you have in the back doesn't touch the roof?
 
I'm just having the roof lining redone, not going to extend it, with the type of work I do it would probably get messed up
 
Done my roof lining today, took 2 hours start to finish. The suede red didn't look rite for roof lining, I laid it on and thought no it's too pimp my ride, so I played the safe option and went beige leatherette. I'm going to use the suede red on the pillar trims and half the door cards.

1st removed old and cleaned up with wire brush



Then glued on the new and started to trim.



Refitted.

with my grey interior bits in didn't look rite, when I lay it over, then put sun visors against it, it didn't suit it.
 
Did you add a foam layer behind it? I plan on repairing my estate's

How did you pull the old lining off? What did you stick it down with and where was the material from?
 
I bought the leatherette local from a company called Simon Boyd, you can get it online easy enough off eBay, but I needed to colour match it perfectly so bought local, £8 per meter and it's about 1.25m wide off memory, it's wider than the roof anyway, the old just pulled off with ease in one go and took all of 30 seconds. Mine had only just started to sag slightly in 1 spot. I then cleaned it up with a wire brush to get all that foam crap off left behind, just wire brush it till its smooth and down to the fibreglass (was messy but took about 15mins) then I aerosol spray adhesive (heavy duty stuff off eBay) used 1 can at £4 to do just this, sprayed all over the roof lining and material, waited a couple of minutes and lay it on and rubbed it flat, I had to lift it and redo it in a couple of areas (mainly edges and corners) to get rid off any wrinkles. My advice is don't let it stay stuck for long if you need to lift it as it goes off quite quickly.
Then at the edges I cut it into sections, pulled it over the edges and glued over each piece onto the back. Where you see the indents for sun visors etc it was easy. The hardest part was the 4 corners.
You can't use staples it's too thin!

It came out as nice as it looks in pics! Really pleased with it, came out better than I was expecting

Started on the door pillar trim today with the red suede. Each pillar took about 20mins, I'm finding it really easy to do and getting good results, I think it's endless what I could cover. The little button that covers the screw was covered seperatly so panel still easily removable if needed.
I don't think the suede would be hard wearing and could scuff up quite easily so will have to pick and chose what I cover.
