AL's Mk3 Merit XE

u cursed yourself lol nevermind and good thing no damage and i wonder how much it weighs all together and what power to weight ratio your getting with it

Al i said dont kill it  least you know it shifts :) what brakes you running?

256's fronts, GSi rear beam, standard GM pads with drilled/grooved discs all round. Quite effective once there is a bit of heat in them - easy to lock the back end up though!

Had mega trouble with it today, oil system is over pressurising massively, spewing oil in to the plug bores (smokey smokey!) - think there is a breather blocked and I really need to do the breather/baffle mod before it can be considered driveable!

Uh-oh...

Oh dear!

Then this happens:

At least my parking skills are still the shizzle LOL

thats not good Al  hope you fix it soon mate

Well its all been apart, cleaned up, baffle plate modded (rear chopped up royally) and put back together with a new (non-gen) gasket and a **** load of hylomar.

Leaving it to go off overnight, hopefully be able to drive to work in it tomorrow :)

Some pictures from yesterday... cleaned everything out again:

'modified' the baffle plate...

June-2-2.jpg

Ahhh yes - that'll do nicely!

June-2-3.jpg

Then stuck it all back together with a non-gen gasket and a load of hylomar.

Left it over night for the sealant to go off, fired it up this morning (first time every time :p ) - little bit smokey for a few minutes as expected, but drove it round the block and there were no leaks.
Have since driven to work and back (including a bit of a thrash on the way home) and so far (touch wood) there has been no leaks at all!
I'm going to get some Gunk etc tomorrow and clean down the block/gearbox, then can re-paint the rocker (going to mask up the bay and just touch it up in place) and it'll hopefully all be good for the weekend then!

This evening i've cracked on and done a few interior jobs. Wired in (and tested) my new 12v socket:

And finally moved my harness to the proper place on the floor, then fitted the passenger side harness.

June-3-3.jpg

Luckily I had one of my many helpers though

June-3-1.jpg

Going to crack on with tidying up and finishing everything off over the next couple of days:
Wrap up loom properly.
Clean bay.
Do nut & bolt check on everything - still need to tighten up shafts :o + put split pins in

Probably think of a million other little jobs too!

glad its ok mate - be warned ginger pussy is evil tho

Oil is still all where it is meant to be :) Had a bit of a smell of oil when driving this morning but that has all cleared now :) Just need to sort out the blow from the exhaust and it'll all be sorted :D
Picked up a can of gunk, cleaned the bay then masked off for a quick coat of paint:

June-4-3.jpg

No pics of the finished job - but it looks exactly the same as it did before basically

I then moved on to painting the calipers like i've been meaning to do for ages - won't be to all tastes but I like them now that they are brightened up! Will look great with my other wheels back on once i've sorted some new tyres.

June-4-2.jpg

I then moved on to painting the interior to tidy up all of the marks made by hauling around various parts and Lee's engine crane
Hammerite smooth blue on the arches/sides, smooth black on the floor as before. Not sure if it'll stay like that - might rub it all down and spray it properly once the cage has been fabbed in to place.

June-4-5.jpg

Aaaaaaand finally I got around to giving the mirrors a rub down and re-paint. They were still rover hurricane grey from well over a year ago when I did my wheels  Satin black ftw 8)

June-4-4.jpg

I also managed to tighten up the shafts and fit split pins finally :)

Tomorrow's jobs:

Fix exhaust.
Clean inside and out.
Coat of wax maybe...

Nearly done for the time being!

It'll be at PV and Billing chap (on Mk3OC stand at Billing...) so all good!

good to see it again in the flesh and see you again you big gay bear

the interior is looking better :) glad you got the problems sorted too

Finally a proper(ish) update. Been fiddling with little bits here and there, but this is a selection of the stuff that i've done lately.

First of all, some pics of when it was all nice and clean just before PV...

June-18-3.jpg

This is half of the reason that my exhaust was blowing so horribly at PV - the other reason was a missing rubber from the mid-box.

June-18-4.jpg

And this is why I needed new tyres! And definitely why I need to do something to sort the camber out ASAP!

June-18-6.jpg

It is now rolling on Astra GSi wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1's.

Tonight I started to clear out the 'Trays "bedroom" Its been full of crap since March when I got the engine. Cleared the shelves first of all and started to stack up my random XE bits & spares:

June-18-7.jpg

Tidied up my tool box...

June-18-8.jpg

Then hammered through the rest of the garage - the pile in the middle will be going to the tip - plus other bits. The lump on the right is the old engine which will be leaving for pastures new next week with any luck!

June-18-9.jpg

During the rest of this week I will be doing a few job's in the bay - fitting my new strut brace, my new HT leads and hopefully relocating the battery to behind the passenger seat.
Once that is done I can crack on with tidying up and painting stuff :p

al did i see you driving down the bumbury road / northfield
