Well not done much one this one since finishing the painting, which is always a good thing! but time to take it off the road. amy used to drive it all winter but i'm not allowing that after the effort i put in painting it! So the RS is sorn and final wash before going into hiding. Paint is still all there! result lol
fresh, so stuck it in the the workshop, wheels off to be cleaned and start taking the fuel tank out ready to fit the harnesses! This never got done during the painting stage because to fit them properly is hard work and requires welding to, which means you have to gut the interior!
so interior out, chucked a seat back in and got measuring, now luckily there is a proper FIA diagram of what angle the harnesses have to be at, so this make life easy enough, just have to put the seat in and have a measure up with the digital angle gauge, then worry about how your gonna get a plate in there later
so held some harnesses in place, managed to get the rear at 39 degrees which is a winner, any less i would of had serious issues fitting them! possible need a harness bar or something. The megane will get a roll cage eventually but i can't afford it any time soon cause even ones u weld in yourself are around the 600 quid mark!
So after a bit of playing around, i managed to order some more eyebolts (made sure they were lifting grade so nice and strong) and use some of the original holes in the car, seat mounting and seat belt mountings, so you can be sure they are nice and strong anyway and designed to take the force of an impact!
so got the rears in
sides used original this side
and made on this side
and two in the floor, amy didn't buy 6 point harnesses, but i want them in the eventually for track days etc and while the car is apart, rude not to!
all done, holes made, checked my angles, look good, so need to get the plates on the other side
so got the plates on, ground some bear metal. This plates don't actually need to be welded in, but i do think its best to, couple of reasons really, very unlikely but stops the plate spinning and coming loose, but also nearly all of them are in very difficult to access places and for the sake of a little tack weld to stop this, rude not to! They were actually a proper paint to take weld due to being thick and stainless, and the car metal being thin and normal steel (thin because cars are double skin in a lot of places for strength)
so went to use the welder.....
and it broke
