Sorting my mates brakes out on his mk3 Astra. It's a non abs system. Bled the brakes more times than I care to remember, there's no air coming out the nipple just fluid. Problem is there is a really poor pedal. I've eliminated the brake master cylinder by clamping all the brake hoses and the pedal is then solid. So one at a time I unclamped the hose, I've found it to be the o/s/f and the n/s/r is at fault has the pedal is really good when they're both clamped, once they unclamped the pedal goes poor again.
These poor brakes are on the same diagnal system so I thought that is could be the interval seal on the master cylinder although the master cylinder is dry when I take it off the servo,
Anyone got any thoughts on this? Many thanks in advance

If its dropping when unclamping with pressure on then it's air in the system normally. Try using a pressure bleeder and them pressing the pedal down half way for a few pumps to see if there is anymore air come out.

Jono like I said at the top. No air coming out at all. We've been through about 2 litres of dot 4 brake fluid.
The car was is a n reg Astra sport. The car has been completely bair stripped. Now fitted with a c20let. All the abs has been removed and a replacement servo and master cylinder has been fitted in place from a gte, all pipe are brand new. They are all the correct route aswell. The car is fitted with the load sensing valve on the rear beam rather than the compensator valve on the master cylinder.
So who thinks its the calipers? Who thinks it's the master cylinder?

badly adjusted rear brake on that corner? if its drums that is?

no no its cool, mate i ALWAYS go for the obvious things as we mechanics can tend to overlook them. ok so check that the brake hoses dont have bulges in them after the point you pinched them off, other than that check all calipers are on straight and tight, erm other than that i can tthink of anything, though the beer and cider has been flowing

The common problem when upgrading the brakes is that people put the calliper s the wrong way around and the bleed nipples point down instead of up which create air pockets inside the callipers. Therefore creating a spongy pedal simple to fix just swap the front callipers around and re-bleed this might solve your problem but it also might not but its worth a check

Well check as above first but you will be suprised that no air comes out when pumping the pedal but put a pressure bleeder on there and pump the pedal again and air will come out. This I know as I once did the same think with 2ltrs of fluid after changing my master cylinder. Then after persistent poor brake pedals I brought a pressure bleeder and watched the air flow out....

I have a pressure bleeder they are the nuts!!! I made the mistake of putting my callipers on the wrong way round once it's so Easley over looked!!!! I would also double check all the brake pipe unions as some times they can be a right c£@t to seal

he has a fault with ONE FRONT and ONE REAR caliper

Yeah like mr skint. Although I never fitted the braking system (I hat finishing off jobs that other people started),
The front calipers are on the right way up although thinking about it the rear calipers are so the nipples are at the bottom. This would make sence on the rear left but why on the front?

You can just about see it at the top.

Thanks andy, the rear calipers he has on his car are different to them, he's fitted 5 stuns in his car. Not sure what he's had them off but the calipers are different to them In the picture. On his calipers the brake pipe goes in at the top like in the picture but the nipples are at the bottom, I'm thinking that the calipers are upside down. They need swooping over to each other. Thanks mate
