My 1.4 Merit - GSI

Found a couple of tyres for the 16s, dirt cheap so stuck them on, so I could pull the fan blades off.
Got a set of the correct 205/50/15s for them while they were off, and tidied them up a bit but they need stripping and repainting, they're covered in about 6 layers of paint. The silver was a rush job as when I bought them they were black, and I hate black wheels. So I'm in a quandary as to which set to fit now :D

Both look good but if i really had to choose i think the stepdown blades would get my vote

16's all day long

Something that's been annoying me for ages is not actually being able to get in the car, unless I used two hands or ripped the door open, because the doorcard was coming apart like this

Employed the daughter to fit new clips to the new cards, which are mint both sides, and kind of wasted on this since I had to punch a hole in them for windy windows.

Didnt get any pics fitted as it needs a good clean and they're just doorcards that actually fit now :D

Also running the GSi wheels atm with spacers, as I planned on refurbing the 16s, but the father in law has borrowed them for few days while he waits for tyres for his mk4.

Not done a great deal to this lately, changed the boot struts, changed a speaker, pretty much it :D Been switching between cars to get to work so they both get some run time, but off this week so gave them a wash and wax, probably should have staggered it for something to do tomoro but hey ho :D

Out of sheer boredom (back to work tomoro, never looked forward to it before :D) I swapped wheels over again, and used 10mm spacers at the back. I also painted the tyre writing in white, again out of boredom, to see what it looked like. I like it, however it peels off rather easily so I'll just pressure wash it off at work. Ordered a new set of GSi rear lights, as I just can't get the Depo ones to seal, and hate having to use silicon. Also, I've got an eml on every now and again, can I fin anything paperclippy to read the codes? Can I buggery. I think it's an air leak as my new idle seems to be about 2k.

Looks like the site has been updated, but some info is still there.

Cheers Andy, I've got that saved, it's something to bridge the pins I'm lacking, gonna raid the office in work for paper clips tomoro

Changed the rear lights over for standard GSi ones, the Depo ones fitted awfully and had a load of silicon in just to get them to seal. Not detangoed these ones, and polished some rust streaks off the boot lid, seems the back window aperture is slowly rotting out under the seal :(

Not looked at this for a while, decided to stick the GSi wheels back on, for a change if nothing else as the steering is pretty heavy on the 16s anyway. Found a nice surprise in the drivers wheel arch waiting for me...

So need to find someone to weld that up, noone my way will do it properly, only an MOT type patch that will need doing again in 12 months. Not perturbed, I decided to change the front bumper over, as I had a slight accident involving having to drop off a kerb backwards ripping it off. This is a spare, no foglights and at 100 a set I wont be buying any either, and a rush paint job but better than a saggy cable tied on bumper. Also picked up a passenger today in a charity shop, wanted one for a while so he's now chief of vehicle security and navigator.

My mate has had one of them in his RS turbo for about 10 years haha

stick some brake ducts in the fog holes wont look as bare then

Bought a load of things for this for the MOT, wipers, service kit, found a genuine touch up paint (dont think it will be big enough :D) Passenger door wouldn't unlock the other day while cleaning it, had to rip the door card off with the door shut so bought new clips, greased the lock up which seems to have cured it. Stuck the standard back box on as the garage my mate uses hates loud cars. Also rubbed down the spare wheel well and waxoyled the back end while the exhaust wasn't in the way. Spotlights are coming off as they're pulling the grill out and I have no fabrication skills or tools to make brackets, I'm in the market for a wheel change as well, I like my 16s but they're kerbed to hell, and will take a lot to refurb. I like the standard GSi alloys but they're a bit boring. Still in need of a GSi drivers seat but since they've all gone like my last one or they're 300 a pair ill wait. MOT wise I know there's a hole in the front wheel arch, dont know if its a fail but will be getting done either before or after the MOT next Monday. Hoping to borrow my mates ramp for an hour while its there to wire wheel and waxoyl the rest of the underneath as well. Oh and I bought a new gear gaitor. Exciting times :D its also had a good clean inside out, I think I've done less than 2k in it this year, and its starting to really look its 27 years. A definite 20 footer, but promotion in work is looking good and means more funds will be allowed into this.

Before Xmas I did genuinely consider letting it die as ive had it 11 years now, but considering its only fail to proceed was fixed with a 50 quid box and a 40 quid clutch, and fail to stop qas fixed with a free master cylinder i dont think I'm through with it yet. The rust on the back arch is advancing, I'm hoping it just festers quietly until I can throw some money at it, or i find somewhere to have a go myself. Boring update but keeps me up to date :)

Cheers Kev, still have that engine, still not looked at putting it in, between work and kids I'm lucky if I get chance to wash them atm :D
