Hiya all, haven't posted in a while since the idiot wrote my car off by drivin straight into me. I've had the car under cover round the back of my house for a while as I don't really wanna get rid of her.
Soz bout poor pics but its alot cleaner now, jus haven't taken any recent pics.
My question for all you lovely people is does it look like my drivers side chassis is bent? There's no creases in it? I know my inner wing is totally gone but obv I can replace that with a bit of welding.
My idea is to take engine out etc n possibly rebuild it but my mates have just come straight out and sed it's twisted, get rid.
Any help or opinions would be great?
Thanx in advance

Does anyone have measurements I can use to double check? Like distance between the 2 rails?

I'd say the drivers side chassis leg is bent downwards tbh?

I've taxed worse!
Cant really tell from a pic mate only things I can suggest is 1, take it to a body specialist or 2, get someone with a astra to take it to yours to get some good measurements.

Sorry to see a car that you have an obvious bond with in such as predicament. Im sure anything is fixable.

Looks nasty.

I would suggest that needs to go on a jig to make sure it is straightened up and will drive straight and true again. I had a similar accident in a mk2 and it looked fine and drove ok but was a long way out. The amount of rust and amount of money you have will dictate repair or strip.

My head would say get a new one, but I know if that happened to my Calibra outside I'd have it jigged and spend 10x what I bought the car for to have it on the road again.

hmm... its not really something you can tell with that pic alone. I wouldnt just be looking from the top, you need to get right under the car and take a look to see if theres any creases ect. Also, are there any marks on the roof? and dints or movement on other panels would also suggest that its twisted.

having said all the above, I know that if that was mine i'd be repairing it... just keep tapping it lightly with a small hammer till it looks rate! ;)

Like Father Teds Rover?

One of the only mk3 owners close to me and someones smashed it for you, sorry to hear it mate. If i see any mk3 spares gsi or not ill let you know.

Cheers for all your info ppl, def take all of it on board. Yea all engine mounts snapped n engine has gone to firewall. Think I'm gonna take engine out n go from there tbh. Look everywhere for creases. Miss driving it so much :-(

Looks like your engine has moved mate :(

im not 100% sure it has mate, my x20xev sits like that and theres nothing wrong with it at all. Difficult to tell with the pic above but the engine can sit offset slightly but its difficult telling on that pic with no panel on the front ect.

have a look at mine.... look at the strut brace going across and other bits against the engine level, its slightly offset.

Get it on a jig mate, its the only way you will know for sure, as ive seen stuff that looks fine but has been bent. I bought my mk3 as a cat c write off with front end damage and had a section of chassis leg replaced, if there aint no kinks or creases then it may only need a little tweek..

If you take the bumper backing off thats still bolted on and try another bumper and see if the holes line up. Looking at the metal piece behind the bumper i would say that the legs maybe pulled in slightly and the o/s might be down abit but carn't tell 100% from a pic, get it on a jig though as thats an easy repair anyway..

The engine defs isn't sat where it should be.

I would just reshell it, much cheaper, easier and quicker!
