my calibra that im putting the saab engine in currently has an x20xev in it. I started it up the other day out of curiosity and it seem to be a decent running engine. trouble is it wont rev past 4.5k. Now i know the previous owner tried lots of things to resolve this changed a load of sensors and so on. basically someone came up with the theory that the trigger wheel that sends the signal to the crank sensor might be loss and thats whats causing the problems.
was wondering if anyone on here had any idea as I wouldnt mint sticking the car on the road for a while till I get all the bits together for the saab conversion. there is no eml showing either

It could be the cam or crank sensor or it also could be a broken or blocked cat too

Cam and crank sensor has both been changed. Have a thread on mig aswell and the blocked cat is being mentioned quite a lot.

take the cat out and see if revs better/shine a light into it and try to see if its knackered (would be quieter :). sometimes the wiring starts to brake down for the sensors due to engine heat.

No EML thrown up then? cam or crank sensor usually throws up an error.... would put it into limp mode too lowering the rev's limit. You'll also usually find it will excessively crank before starting up.

Yeah it's a bitch to start. But like I said it had crank and cam sensor replaced and has no eml also had a new loom and ecu by the previous owner. Would a collapsed cat do that aswell?

If your exhaust is blocked up then yes

Yeah I'm thinking that the guys on mig are saying use a proper gm one. Trouble is 70 quid is a big gamble on an engine I ain't gonna be keeping. I got a full spare xev today so gonna try swapping over a few things and see how it goes. Just wish I had the cash to get the b204 in it.

Just fixed exactly the same problem in mine, crank sensor and maf sensor aswell as loads of oil in the tops of the sparks £100 to fix
