A mk2 is born!

Update time been doing lots of little jobs on the old girl some not too exciting but just generally going round her and tidying things i am not happy with.

I extracted my xe from my old mk3 ready for a rebuild and some port matching when i have some spare time.

Swapped a load of the nasty light grey interiour plastics for black pic was taken in the dark but you get the idea.

Re built my speedo amp for my digi dash as it was 5 years old and built in a hurry for my first v6 mk3. It now has a tidy circuit board and a nice box to sit in rather than an old casset box that was far too big.

My old mk3 is now gone it was a sad day but i couldn't bring myself to do a third re-spray on it so it got weighed in. :(

Nearly up to date! now for the big progress...

A week or so ago had an issue with the 1300. It stopped and wouldnt turn over despite a healthy starter so i put a socket on the crank and tried to turn it but stuck fast Boll$*£s!! :( whipped off the belt cams moved fine crank didn't. So i pulled off the sump and found this.

Metal fragments in the sump

Number 2 rod bearing stuck fast to the crank

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...............................................

A temporary engine is needed

Photo0642.jpg

100 points if you can guess what it is

This involves alot of rewiring and a new fuel tank from a mk3 but while the tank is out may aswell remove the beam and give her rear end a good seeing too

Photo0650.jpg

Tank prepped for painting

Fitting a mk3 loom too as it is easier than adapting my 1988 carb loom for the new engine. This of course will be slimmed down to its bare essentials to save a few kg

Photo0639.jpg

I have spent a while swapping the mk3 connectors for mk2 some you can swap the pins into the new plug others need a cut and shut

The worst job in the world unless you have a ramp or a spit

Photo0646.jpg

Photo0647.jpg

Then a liberal application of zinc primer and some good old red oxide ontop

Then undersealed

Love you engine hoist lol :)

Love you engine hoist lol :)

That cost me nearly £30 and has lasted much longer than a £200 engine crane. Funnily that is the first time i have taken a vaux engine out the top normally lift the car off the engine. It also doubles up as a car lift ;)

The engine is an x14xe which i picked up for £80 including f15 and delivery. The redtop needs at least £1000 chucked at it to get the spec i want and the 1.4 is 90 bhp will be good fun in a light car aswell as being cheap to run while i save money for redtop parts. It makes a lovely noise near the rev limit too!

Still been getting on with the engine conversion just keep finding more of those little bits and bobs to do anyway while engine was out the car i have performed a few mods to improve reliability like blanking the egr and there is a secondary type of egr running from the manifold to a box on the corsa which i have removed and blanked off the hole in the manifold. Also removed the throttle body and gave it a good clean bit of a ball ache job not straight forward on this engine due to the bizzare inlet manifold.

Photo0690.jpg

The breather running to this stupid induction pipe is causing the oil build up so that will be going somewhere else prob a coke bottle for now. Plans are in hand to run the induction over the gearbox straight to the throttle body rather than this pipe running round the back of the engine gently heating the air before it enters the tb.

Also deleted the coolant flow through the throttle body as it made a mess of pipes round the back of the block with a second return to the header tank and it is now mk2 compatible :) Removed the corsa starter loom and swapped for my trusty mk3 one which will plug into my new car loom and fingers crossed will all work.

Anyway big newsflash the Engine is in!!!! only taken me 2 weeks ha ha

Had to remove the 4 speeder and driveshafts first leaving a nice empty bay the matrix pipes put up a decent fight.

The beast being lowered onto its new heart

And sitting pretty all bolted up and shafts back in ready for wiring tomorrow

Photo0696.jpg

Now everything has gone extreemly smoothly so far with no broken bolts or any major problems i couldn't sort, so something had to happen and it did this afternoon. I broke the sump around the drain plug now these sumps are notoriously fragile around the drain hole but it was my stupidity that caused this one and it annoyed me to say the least so i am off down the scrappy tomorrow for another one. But the end is in sight !!!

looks good mate, not seen anyone do that conversion yet, should be good
