My GSi project

cheers bud, dont supose u've offered the cooler upto the front of the car yet? im thinking about getting this and using 2 90deg. bends and routing the pipe down the side of the radiator.

ive had a measure and it would be tight dependant on how large the silcone bend are.

where are you routing the pipes?

Not yet no, but I have measured it up and there is enough room to fit the pipes either side of the radiator, just have to cut the samco bends down a bit.

More done today, engine is ready to go in now which is planned for next weekend

ARP rods bolts and bearings fitted:

Quick update, made a start on taking the ecotec out today, pretty much everything is off bar the exhaust system, gear linkage and driveshafts.

Hopefully we will have the LET in and running by tomorow night

Ok give me shout if you need any parts then :)

i still got my ecotec kev:whistle:

looking good tom you offered the cooler up to the car yet? i had to butcher mine abit lol (the car not the cooler)

Yep theres loads of room, just have to cut a few inches off the samco bends to get them either side of the rad, decided that Im not gonna cut the middle crossmember up though, gonna chop the bumper bar up instead lol

thanks Tom (& Rad)

Fair bit bit done today thanks to my brother Rob helping out

Engine and box are in, turbo diesel rad measured up and fitted, gear linkage on.

Just need to fit the wiring loom, exhaust system and do all the plumbing

Some pics from today:

Exhaust off in one piece with the 2.5" stainless system next to it:

Had to take the ecu before we could take the engine out and what a chore that was ! didnt realise that the steel cage it sits in supports the dash and also the bonnet pull. Looked like I was going to struggle with it but ended up cutting two bolts shorter so that the cage would slide out.

Hmmm wires lol

Offending bolts, god knows why they are over and inch long when theres no need

After that was sorted it was time to lift the engine and box out, Decided to lift it out as one lump instead of removing the subframe and worrying about captive nuts breaking off. There is enough room to take the engine and box out as one if you get the right angle and remove the crank pulley and oil filter first.

Up it goes:

Nearly out:

And on the deck:

Empty bay, took the sound deadening off as it was sodden with water and found that vaux must of run out of paint

Next was to remove the starter loom so it could be transfered to the LET, doing it the right way without cutting and joining wires ;)

100_3067.jpg

Big round plug on the loom:

Plugs in here:

Contains the necessary wires and the all important switched live !

Next was to fit the new rad which involved drilling some new holes:

100_3078.jpg

100_3079.jpg

Fitted flush with the slam panel giving maximum clearance for the turbo and retained the two speed fan switch:

100_3080.jpg

Fan resistor relocated:

Fuel lines, these are the same as the LET and bolt straight to the LET fuel rail.

On mine with the webber fuel reg I need to cut the union off the return pipe and connect it to the webber.

100_3044.jpg

Needed a new connector for the slim fan as I couldnt use the factory one so the secondary air pump kindly donated one lol

100_3092.jpg

Plenty of clearance for 2.5" boost pipes:

Flywheel and clutch fitted:

Thats as far as we got today, big thanks to Robby for the help today :)

wow, got lots done mate. . . like how you are doing things properly. . . little things like making sure the rads spot on and the fan resistor relocated.

spot on pal. looking forward to the next read

one question, could you tell me/show me where that pipe goes off side off turbo. i have the ones fitted to the actuator on top and the top turbo one its the one on the side i aint got plumbed in. it maybe for the built in dump valve as im running a forge one
