Not yet, Terrance is going to come and lend a hand whipping the head off sunday, and seeing whats what, then we'll go from there, but he reckons it might just be a case of changing the headgasket and then the sump gasket.

What is actually wrong with the engine???

Potentially the headgasket, is fires water out the exhaust, theres mayo forming on the cap and the stick, and it leaks oil from the lower end of drivers side of the lump so possibly oil pump gasket or pump, or the sump gasket. But i have another engine and my thoughts were just swap it but tel says its prob easier to do the hg and sump gasket.

Seriously may as well try rebiulding what's aready there, it costs nothing but a little bit of time to strip it all down and find out, then the parts are cheap anyway and at least you know what you're dealing with.
Could also replace other ancillaries while the engine's in pieces

Thats now the intentions, first thoughts were **** it rip it out and bang the other lump in. But the bottom end had been given the all clear and knock free nod so with a bottom end thats good for the sake of rebuilding the top end, and its only the same bits the new lump would need before going in anyway. Providing when we whip the head off we dont find a cracked block or a hole in the piston or something we should be good.

Does anyone use the M20 in the mornings at all? I've noticed that the past few mornings at around 8am, they've enforced a 60 speed limit on the speed-camera littered variable speed limit zone for what I can see to be no apparent reason. I know it's usual of the wombles to do that sort of thing, but I'm just wondering if it's a daily occurrence or whether they've just decided they don't like me?

all good mate ta...
