Just got the Astra running again and it's tapping like hell!
Did a engine flush and full service ect, can the tappets even though I think they are solid cause this? And how can I sort it out with out removing the head :)

They're hydraulic tappets, so might just need some time to fill up again. Ideally when removed it's best to squeeze the oil out of them in a vice. It can sometimes take a while for the tapping to stop. Assuming it is them making the, but that's most likely the problem.

leave running for a hour, should fill them back up, has it had fresh oil

It had a flush then fresh oil, il wait 2 weeks see if its calmed down then flush and fresh oil again,
Would it be easy to take the cam out to remove the tappets?

Taking them out means head bolts out, so new head bolts

unless your name is woody. WHOOOO

are you sure the collets and rockers are all in correctly. Ive seen people forgot to put one back in or not make sure they are sat right before now. not saying youre incapable, just a suggestion

I now have one of them tools, the pic on the back isn't the best of explaining :(
Is it just a case of bolt I cross from the one I want out lobe to the top, and screw the nut down till its all free?

Pretty much.
I had pics but can't fudging find them, and it'll be easier to explain. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Ok.

Basically you screw the long allen bolt into the rocker cover bolt holes (please be REALLY, REALLY careful when you do this, as I nearly buggered the threads when I did mine).
You line the notch in the bottom up with the squared end of the rocker arm, so it's pushing down on the spring cap.

Slowly turn the 10mm nut to compress the spring.
It might help to rotate the cam to get the rockers out easier.

One thing to note.

I found I had to make a small cut, then hammer it slightly in a vice for it to line up properly. Test fit it first, see if it needs 'adjustment'.

That's about it I think. :)

Today I found the reason for the tap, the little cap on top of the valve had come off :O
It's still being a bugger to start though :(

That will do it. Timing 100% right?

Checked it last week and was bang on the marks, strobe light was done too :)
I think it might be ht lead 4 as I got a shock when I touched it

yea u shouldn't get that lol. did u mark the dizzy before u took it off? try another lead. does it misfire when running?

It sounds poppy when it's running :-/ I'm changing the CTS tomoro and my mate is coming down on Sunday who's helped me loads in the past :)
