Top Mounts!

The topmounts are rubber mounts inside a metal ring with a metal plate on the bottom. They wouldnt do anything if it was all metal? does it look anything like the pic at the top of this thread because that doesnt sound like its the right thing?

yeh i think it is, it's the bit that sits at the top of the strut that has the 2 screw points either side and are bolter down under the bonnet, i'll find it out and take a pic of it tomorrow

BIG thanks to wanye once again saving the day. wouldnt of been goin work today if didnt do it last night. just the termostat and fan switch then me car should be sorted for bout a week lol

:D meet half way? lol would cost me nearly £40 in petrol!!

Would be worth the 40quid in fuel mate. No other garage will do the job for £40 and buy the time you get the tools to do it yourself it will be near £40 anyway.

And if it goes wrong Wayne has plenty of spares in his scrapyard garden

it wont all be metal mate. its made up like this

black is metal and brown is rubber, the rubbers really stiff though so it can be hard to tell the difference

it only cost £40 to have the legs removed and have the front springs put on!

going to seee them today to see what they say!!

actually you can get all metal top mounts cause i nearly bought them once, they are for track cars only and shouldnt be used on the road

Well it looks like mine need changing too, both sides have started to rise up in the middle and slightly torn in the middle around the nut, as i have one already thats saved me some cash as it was given to me all i need to do is find another one and change them at the same time i do the rear brake cylinders. Also as this would probably put the suspension out would it cause steering wobble?

probly does cause steering wobble i get abit on mine and when you turn the wheel full lock on pulling off you get like a bang / knock sound as the mounts are flexing due to them being split

Well with mine i get my steering wheel moves like a second hand on a clock when the wheel returns back to centre plus when i'm turning round in my car park it feels like the front is jumping when on full lock, if this is the cause will i need the suspension setting up properly when i've changed the top mounts?
