That looks like wax or grease contamination thats caused that to blister. Are you using a good quality panel wipe/wax and grease remover? looks like you had the same problem with your primer. Leave your primer a couple of days if you can as it will shrink and if you paint over it before curing it shrinks your topcoats with it. I always finish the primer in p600 or p800 wet flat which cleans the surface. Clean thoroughly with degreaser and then silicone remover, it can never be clean enough.
Another thing, are you using a water trap on your compressor? as this can cause this as well.

Very good Dave. I had the same thing with the primer, gave up in the end and I just use cans for primer now.

That texture in the clear is very similar to what I had once, and it was an air flow issue. I think it was not enough air, and it creates tiny bubbles in the paint that pop and leave that finish.

hmmm could be, but then i haven't had issues anywhere else on the bumper and it has gone on nice and thick and deep. tbh i have been reading up and it doesn't sound like a reaction now, its very strange is probably only a section about 5inches around.

ronnie, seeing as u sprayed for 7 years or something do you have any input into possible cause?

hi mate, thanks for the reply! yea i am basically doing everything you said which is what makes it more annoying. Everything i am using is from a VERY reputable local car paint specialist CARS which have a fair few branches,

primer get panel wiped and allowed to dry before base coat starts
primer was laid, waited 2 days, flatted, waited another day, then base put on
base coat was wiped with a 'dab cloth' before lacquer went on to remove unwanted overspray and contaminants before clear coat.
got 2 water traps on the compressor that get emptied regular just incase!

Think this was why i was so pissed off it has happened because i am being so careful!

I have decided to put a hold on things untill i improve extraction situation, Its going to be a bodge and genuis at the same time......

You guys will love it!

You have to be very careful with 2k it can kill you. I bought a moldex full face mask at reasonable price, The air feed mask needs a big compressor to run both which will take you into a 3 phase compressor.
When you say dab cloth, do you mean tack rag? You can use the air from your spray gun with a tack cloth (fresh from packet) to clean things off. It would either been water from the compressor, contamination from dab cloth or not enough time between coats which causes solvent pop- the solvents did not evaporate before the next coat was applied and boiled through the surface. When you apply ms lacquer you are better off doing a dust grip coat first and then two full wet coats.

I have a few guns but I have a cheap-o one for primers and bar coats etc. with a large nozzle, good idea really.

The marks you have, was that a 1k product? if so it looks like its on too thick, can even get that with rattle cans if you put too many layers on too quickly without time to set inbetween- looks like solvent popping or aka solvent boiling as advised above.

Regards the topcoat, just looks that little bit too thick to me, even if its on orange peel like put some work in and you can usually fix it and its better than having loads of runs in it! Anyway, the finished product looks ace, i'd be well happy with that!

Was that a 1k high build you used and then 2k over it out of interest?

It will be 2k as 1k doesn't have a hardener.

yea everything is 2k Mr.Negative

yea **GSI-16V** did a dust coat first, good shout with the water trap though, i might check my water catch, tbh i may buy an inline on too just to rule it out

Yea I reckon your deffo onto something. Thanks for your help guys. I've ordered some of those in line air driers and give it another bash on the front wings next! Gonna try and improve the extractor situ anyways

I've got a 200l clarke boxer compressor and i doesn't take long for the water trap to start filling up,constantly draining the trap. I was surprised when I drained the compressor tank for the fist time how much water come out of it. I think worse if you don't use it that often and condensation builds up.

Never realised u would get moisture in just the line!
In winter I have to drain the water out the tank and catch tank and leave the airline in my van to warm up or it freezes all my stuff

lol the hardships of living up north hey  lol

yea i empty my tank fairly often, there is a part of me which thinks my drier isn't working properly on that part of my airline, think i need to take a second look at it. i just assumed it was doing its job but now everyone has mentioned it i'm not so sure! i have two outlets and both have driers on, the one i don't use for spraying has load of moisture in the drier all the time!

Easy way to tell dave. Tape a piece of masking paper to the wall and blast a couple of tanks of air at it, if the masking paper gets wet your soon find out.

SO! Time to face the music and see if it all gone tits up

so got the bumper out the workshop and hung it on the front of the megane, looks epic straight from the offset lol, but time to crack on and stop day dreaming, so started with the naughty side, time to flat back those bubble things and see what happens, so went at it with the 1500 for a while and as i had hoped, it flatted straight out! i gave it a mega quick 2000 grit mop 2 stage quick to see what it comes up like and YESSSSS perfect!!! or the perfect crime you could say! Completly flatted and polished out, all it is left with is sort of darker dots which are a darker blue, but honestly, you have to have you face 3 inches from the paint! If someone spots that an points it out, they can go **** themselves

sorry for my pony phone camera, samsung s5 is showing its ages slightly with its 5mp camera or whatever it is, its crap but gets the point across!

looks like a smudge but that is a cloud in the reflection lol

epic! that really did improve my mood as i was feeling pretty down about it last few days, so that gave me the buzz and i carried on!

wet flatted the whole bumper 1500, panel wipe then 2000 and using that to get rid of any little lumps, bumps, and imperfections so give it a smooth finish. I'm never going for a completely orange-peel free finish, as that would be taking the lacquer to the limit and i don't have the balls, or patience for that, i don't mind a small amount or orange peel anyways aslong as the reflection is pretty good....

flatted

then spent an ageee doing the 2 stage correction, i found 1 pass with the heavy cut compound wasn't enough, i was left with a really good finish, but visible swirls and scratches so i chose to do 2 passes with the heavy cut, orange pad then move onto the light cut, which pad which i did a tad faster. and well, 5 hours odd later the results.... i went a bit picture crazy, enjoy

mega happy with the result, not bad for an amateur in his garage! if it all turns out like this i will be a happy boy and this is without any sealant or wax still! mega!

did have a small bad one, DA can still be a bit naughty if not careful.... A combination of when i ordered my DA, i didn't get small pads as they weren't in stock, thought i may get away with it, doing a tight section, trying my luck, and shuffling on my seat and the sponge flipped from the bottom edge to the side/top, a nano section later it **** through the lacquer straight down to the base :o

naughty! gonna touch that up with some clear coat and a brush and flat it back at some point, probably on re assemble when i need to go around the car touching bits up etc!

Happy bunny tonight and opened a beer!

in careful storage now in the spare room, funny how i can have car parts in the house when its Amy's car........
