Astra 1.4 SPI - the first car (56K heavy-ish)

the car's coming along really well keep up the hard work:nod:

i hope to, i need to look into the best method of doing it and making it look good and stay that way.

weld it up from the inside then filler on the outside, or weld both sides then grind the welding down

small update that should have gone up yesterday lol.

went to the scrappers yesterday.

2x parcel shelf staps
1x glovebox lock surround
2x outside air temperatures
1x underglove box tray
2x illuminated grab handles
various clips and connectors

for the grand total of a tenner !!

so to work

one empty blank space
Image076.jpg

mounting holes
Image077.jpg

one fitted tray ( ready to fill with more crap )

then fun time - my understanding of electrics is very poor ( que help for dad lol )

the new handles

Image081.jpg

the loom connections

Image079.jpg

the entire loom all made for the passenger side , ( but we then run twin core wire over the otherside to make it easier )

Image078.jpg

then after fighting with the headlining its all fitted and done

been back to the scrappers today, for some more pikey orinetated antics lol came home covered in oil, grease, dirt ect but its all fun.

went purely to get a new window mech since mine has been playing up since i had the car and wasnt the most secure window ever.

so after drilling out the rivets we had the mech, ok it came from an estate  but im hoping it still fits if not i can take it back and find another one

so thats that,

then i aquired 2 sets of mk4 astra side repeaters, after climbing three cars up on the racks to find some ( two slightly different parts )

so on the car they went

then onto vectra parts

managed to find a tinted interior light
and in the car that went
DSC00582.jpg
(sorry for the crap angle )

and a veccy b gear knob

DSC00577.jpg

then while in the process of looking for other useful parts out of cav's and omega's i stumbled across this

DSC00575.jpg

i lost that ( in my pocket :laugh::tape:)

so all i have left to fit now is the knob and the window mech, but that can wait until the weekend.

scrapyard finds are the best! I'll have to get back down my local one and see if they have anything new for a change!

yea just normal autosol from halford, it was on offer at billing for £3 a tube i think, or if you can get the brasso that comes in a little pot of like wool fiber, that will work just as well.

Just read through this thread and I like your car, different but nice :)

leg out after a lot of wd40
DSC00014.jpg

a perished and cracked top mount

dad rebuilding drivers side leg

so that was that sorted. didnt get to many photos, even gave the legs a coat of hammerite.

then i managed to swap parcel shelfs with a mates car he was selling.
DSC00024.jpg

no more wooden support and screws supporting a saggy shelf

then on a trip to the breakers yard i got hold of a tinted vec/cav light with map lights

DSC00027.jpg

DSC00028.jpg

wired that all in perfectly.

thats all for now untill i find the photoshop of the back end.

and a possible donar car for some body panels and bits and bobs that im toying with the idea of.

yeah i know lee, but that means that ive gotta get some springs, then declare it to the insurance company, so it just wernt worth it, next year maybe and now we know how to do it its a piece of ****. the donar car needs a new H/G new rockers, and a rocker cover cos it has a hole in it, shell is quite mint as you say but its a merit with a shagged engine and it was only a couple of hundered so i can blag some bits off it and weigh it in.

been busy today,
last week the gsi rear bumper was put into primer, and dad has done the majority of the work on it.
so here it is

next job is probably a front bumper, but for the time being i need to sort the water leak, find a rear toe eye cover and some better nick plate lights.
