Nova TomVauxhall

I only went on it for business purposes to start with. You don't have to be 'friends' with anyone to talk to a page, but might need an account. I don't really know...

Always wanted nova when I passed my test. Will be watching this thread

Ordered a few parts, got new ball joints, new steering arms, track rod ends and boots. Poly bushes for the bottom arms and tie bars. New front bearings.

The 1.6 engine has had the head skimimed and new water pump and belt kit and is waiting to go back together.
Got a gearbox off a corsa 1.4 16v but i cant see the code on it? Im guessing its an f13?

Got a sump gasket on order so I can clean out all the old gunge aswell.

Anybody removed the outer steering arms from the rack on these? Never done it before do they just wind on a thread?

My old bosses nova had 7k on it when she sold it was a gsi one too, only did abouy 10 miles in a year to the mot and back! Most nova' were stolen or smashed up :(

No point having it if you're not going to use it! Mines done a couple more miles than that and has been stolen before aswell. It's also been in a hedge but that was my fault.

20161220_183617.jpg poor quality pic as my camera has lost its lens cover.

Got up to the car last night and Tommy has got the engine mostly built up with the recon head and new water pump and belt kit. Excellent. They did such a nice job cleaning the head that I thought I'd send off the inlet manifold to be chemically cleaned aswell while it's off. I need a baseplate adapter to fit a weber 32/34 carb onto it so I'll get one next year.
We didnt think about it at the time but this has made the steering arms a bit more awkward to do! May have to remove the servo to get a spanner on them now!

I managed to get one inner wing treated and sealed. Poly bushed the bottom arm and put new bottom ball joint on on that side. Also managed to get a bearing and hub pressed out and new bearing with all the circlips in. This may not seem a lot but it was a massive victory to me! The other side should be easier now I've done one.

My sump gasket arrived folded into an envelope with one of the metal rings for the bolt holes missing. Wondering whether I should ask for another one.

Be worth an absolute fortune that would now, we just bought a Nova SR with 15k miles.
White GSi with 7k miles would be mega money now!

Never been in a Nova, if they're anything like the Ax's I've had, the giggle factor far outweighs the lack of power, nice work Thomas :)

They don't weigh a lot and they're small so it always makes you feel a bit giddy. It will only be about 90 bhp.
With a smaller engine you're always getting down all the power and thrashing it rather than tickling a big power lump
I'll let you take it for a burn when it's done mate, the only rule is you have to give it full bitch no holding back

Can I come drive it like I stole it too?

On recommendation from a few of the lads on here I got some ATE brake fluid.
Also my built-to-order braided brake lines arrived20170106_193647.jpg

A few more bits and bobs arrived today.
Gm gearbox oil and 236mm vented nova gsi discs (yes they're not massive but neither is a nova!)

Custom 8mm ht leads20170109_175629.jpg

And the carb adapter plate and cable bracket.
This will allow me to fit a weber 32/34 carb in place of the original peirburg fitted to the mk1/2 astra 1.620170109_175615.jpg

Just got the front corner all built up. Poly bushed the wishbone and the tie bar and put on all new ball joints, new brake line and new discs with a 1.6 calipers.

Went to stick the wheel on and it's touching the coilover!!! These shocks must only work with the skinny standard wheels.
Would probably need a 25mm spacer to work with my wheels and there's no way I'm doing that.
Back to the drawing board and look for some fixed height shockers I think
