Ians 5dr Astra Turbo

What a knob. I've never understood how you can do this, I've always felt it if I've put it in the wrong gear and smacked the clutch back down. Hope it's not too bad mate, way too close to pvs for stuff like this

Damn! not good Ian.... :(

fingers and toes crossed that its something easily sorted

Depends if your granny shifting , tbh my gear linkage aint the tightest so was pretty easy to get the wrong gear..

Hopefully bent valves is all it is, obviously no damage would be best  but after doing that it's probably revved to a good 10-15k rpm!

Was bouncing off the limiter like a mofo..

Unfortunately i know its fubard..

Update:

Borrowed a compression tester yesterday and got results of 210 psi across all cylinders which equates to about 180 psi as the tester i borrowed doesn't actually start from 0  Checked all the timing and then noticed that the fuel rail was loose. On closer inspection the rail retaining lugs had snapped clean off so it seems the extra boost from the over reving has tried to blow the injectors out and only the throttle cable bkt has kept them from completely blowing out of the manifold!!!:

Lucky i had spare:

Got it all built back up and started her up and it run pretty well. Took it for a run and it just didn't seem right. Was broducing a max of 0.5 bar and when i got back it sounded like a scooby again. Decided to swap the injectors for the saab reds ive got as maybe it had done the injectors in at the same time as the rail :

Once they were in i started it up again adajusted the fuel pressure and it was running really lumpy for about 30 seconds and then ran pretty good so presuming it needed to learn the injectors. At this point i decided to check the turbo so down pipe off and one of the bolts snapped  ok i can deal with that, turbo elbow off and another bolt snapped  . Was proper spewing at this point so packed up and had a fair few beers!!.

So moving onto today i cracked on and whipped the turbo off:

I then checked the turbo out and thought there was about 3-5 mm play but after another good check it seems to be a max of 3mm so got the bolts drilled out and got it refitted. I need to sort another bolt for the down pipe but apart from that its all built back up and ive had it running again. Seems to run ok but has a little blip where it has a few little pops that sounds like its under water every so often. (That's the only way i can describe it). Im going to pull the timing cover and rocker cover off tomorrow and check the cams are all good and make sure the locating pin for the pulleys hasn't sheard off or twisted..

What an odd situation, 180psi across the board sounds spot on so the timing and valves should be still good. When you take the rocker cover off check the valve springs too one hasn't broken, or even a possibility they've lost their tension from their 10k rpm visit.

At least you know your boost pipes are good if it snapped the rail before popping a pipe!

Hope you find the cause soon enough :thumb:

Update:

Checked the cams and the pulleys today and every thing seems spot on so went for some fuel and took it for a good run. Im pleased to say that its fixed!! woohoo. Seems to have done the injectors in aswell as the rail but all good with the saab reds in. Its boosting to 0.8 and 0.6 constant so no more boost cut either. I'm putting that down to the actuator adjustment but happy as a pig in **** now..
