Phase 2 gsi to phase 1 gsi c20let

So, I've been looking into this for a while, my latest gsi is a right hand drive UK spec phase 2. However, the logbook says it was first registered overseas. This is probably how it has avoided the rot on the dreaded salt roads.

It doesn't state when it was imported to the UK, and it doesn't state where it was first registered.
I can't find any more information on this, so I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me out...

•where did this car come from if it's right hand drive and UK spec?
Could it be from South Africa? Or somewhere closer? Would Ireland or jersey be classed as 'overseas'?

•will this affect the insurance when I finally get it on the road

Anybody clued up on this subject?

Afaik they didn't get the 3dr in south africa.

Might be a forces chap based overseas like Germany?

Funny you should mention them! I have looked into them but all I can find is new sales. I might drop them an email

I had some re sealed years ago can't remember cost but wasn't cheap. Overseas could of been Ireland perhaps

Small update, started undersealing on the front end. Stripped off the phase 2 sideskirt and the wing. Was happy to find the inner wing and sill in very good condition on the nearside20160606_175851.jpg
The front end is also very clean and straight

So cleaned it all off and whacked some underseal on it20160606_183404.jpgdid the front end aswell for peace of mind as it's mostly hidden behind the bumper.
I'm hoping to leave this as vauxhall intended and not chop anything out to fit the intercooler.20160606_205559.jpgBack again tomorrow night to do the other inner wing. After that I will start working my way back down the car. Take off the spare subframe and the exhaust heatsheilds and underseal as much as possible.

Any advice on the finish of the petrol tank?
Should I take it off and underseal behind it?

Did the other inner wing tonight. Pleased to say that it was also quite clean and rot free20160608_200259.jpg

Ive always wondered what this thing is with the vacuum pipes on it under the offside wing but I've never taken one off. Took this one off tonight to underseal behind it and shook it.
It feels like it's half full of sand?? Can anyone tell me what it's for? Is it suppost to be half full of stuff?

Carbon canister.

Be warned. Remove it, and you'll face the wrath of green peace.

I think it's just charcoal, but don't quote me on that though as I've never taken one off.

It's just an emissions thing. I cant remember where it goes to and from as I binned mine years ago. Extra weight that isn't needed lol

I might follow the pipes back and see where they go.
Anyone ever cut the GM alarm off underneath them? They never work but I'm worried it might affect something else if I get rid of it

Check underneath the left side carpeting if there wasnt any welding done or work. Could simply be that they inserted a right hand drive dashboard. The shells are build for both sides. it's a matter of a cutout.

There is no other country i can remember that has right hand drive besides south africa.

Whats also possible is that someone simply exported it from the UK, and it came back to the UK somehow.

Why not check the paint code for the factory location? :)

A previous owner of my 5dr had removed the alarm ecu because they changed the radio and it works fine (well not atm, but that's totally unrelated lol).

I remember a fair while back on here, someone posted a pic or link to a red gsi that was on sale in Japan.

Dunno if that was imported to Japan from here or what.

Could've been a Chevrolet or a Holden.

GM tends to re badge astra's allot! I still don't know why they rebadge Opel cars to Vauxhall in the UK.
It's practically the same continent
